Leaf MOS image support
« on: August 19, 2010, 10:10:29 AM »
According to the list of supported formats, MOS Raw files are supported.  In practice, however, neither previews nor loupe views appear to be available.  What's the chance of addressing this?

While we're on the subject, I also have a problem with Kodak DCS520/560 and Canon D2000 files.  These are not listed among your supported formats but it would be very useful if they were.  Again, the primary problem seems to be lack of a 100% view to check for focus.

Thanks,

Dave.

The formats you've listed do not contain any preview information in them.  Photo Mechanic (in general) does not render RAW formats.  On Mac OS X, RAW rendering can be enabled if your system has a recent version of Apple's ImageIO framework, but even then it is unlikely that the Kodak and Canon formats you listed would be supported.

It would be great if the Leaf folks would get their cameras to generate a reasonably-sized preview and insert them into the MOS files.  Then PM would retain its speed and be able to provide a useful preview.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Unfortunately, Apple's RAW file handling does not extend to images from the Leaf AFi 10 (56mb) and also fails to handle DCS files, and it doesn't appear that DNG files fare any better.

Any other ideas?  It would really be nice to have the facility of PhotoMechanic in MF.

Thanks,

Dave.

Do you have any software that can render JPEGs from your RAW files?  If so, generate JPEGs with the same name as the RAW files (make sure the base name matches but the extension differs) and save them to the same folder as the RAW file.  PM will then pair the JPEG with the RAW file and give you high resolution previews and will keep metadata changes (and filename renaming) in sync.

Kirk --

Thanks very much -- that got me well on the way for both Leaf and Kodak DCS.
