Capture One tiffs don't show in Photomechanic
« on: February 06, 2011, 06:39:10 AM »
I have just purchased Photomechanic and I hope someone can help me.

I edit my raw files from my Phase One P25+ back in Phase One Capture One and process them into 16 bit tiff files for further editing in Photoshop.
I have always done this and the tiff images work just fine in my ACDSee image browser.

Now, in Photomechanic folder view I do get a thumbnail outline with the file name, but no image shows (grey surface). Double clicking on it also does nothing (again, the image shows fine in ACDSee - thumbnail, full size etc.).

When I take the image into Photoshop and save it as an 8 bit tiff, then Photomechanic shows the image normally - thumb, preview etc.
All my other folders with processed 8 bit tiffs work fine also.

Any suggestions what to do?

If you're willing to submit a sample image for our use, we can try and support your camera's files in an upcoming version of Photo Mechanic.  Please note that PM is not a RAW converter and if the image does not contain a JPEG preview then we will be unable to support it.  Please click on my name to the left of this message, then click on the 'personal message' link.  I will respond with upload instructions.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thank you Kirk, PM sent.

As an aside, when I do some post editing in photoshop the subsequently saved tiff (still in 16 bit) now works fine in PM - but it shows 2 identically named thumbnails in PM (just one in ACDSee)    ???  ???

Are there two files with the same base name but different filename extensions?

exact same file names and extensions (.tif in lower case)

Attached are three screen dumps of the folder in question (the folder has 2 TIFFS: ....449, after some processing in PS CS4 and ....447, only saved as TIFF after processing the RAW file in Capture One):

Windows explorer:

ACDSee:

Photomechanic:

I have no idea how that's even possible.  Could you zip up the folder and upload it as well?

Thanks,

Thank you for your continued follow up Kirk.
I will do that with just the 2 TIFF's but without the inconsequential sub folders (otherwise it would be a close to 700 MB! ZIP file)

EDIT: tried several times, FTP server keeps resetting (file (210 MB) was almost there last time grrrr...).
I'll keep trying...

OK, you should have the file now Kirk. It is calle Frits.zip

I tried it independently and it behaves exactly as described above.

I am very curious to hear about your observations.

Thanks,

Frits

Follow up, for those Phase One shooters that may be interested:
Kirk took this to heart and followed it up to a conclusion. He fixed the issue and sent me a link to a beta version to be sure I could check on my end.
All works fine in the beta and the change will be incorporated in a next 4.6 update.

WOW, customer consideration at its best - thanks again Kirk!

You're welcome.  Did it also solve the double image issue?  I wasn't able to reproduce that issue with the zip file (containing the two photos that showed as three) on my system.

No more double thumbnails either (that sure was the weirdest...)
