Ingest folder name field size
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:11:21 PM »
I'd love it if the input field for Folder Name on the Ingest dialog extended the entire width of the window.

My default value for the Folder Name is {iptcyear4}-{iptcmonth0}-{iptcday0}_toEdit... and I'll frequently change the last 6 characters to something else, but first part (with variables) remains the same.     I'd just like to be able to see the whole thing without have go to the field and scroll to see it.

Thanks for considering!

Ron

I have few thoughts about this.

1) separate {jobname} input filed, with something like {jobname} variable getting populated with the text from the field. Default keyboard focus in Ingest window. Although a bit specialised and relying on variables = made for power users. I would love it, but do not know about not power users...

2) colour highlighting. How about (dunno if possible in text entry fields on both OS X and Win) colour highlighting variables and other text, with variables getting truncated in the middle and the last text visible at the end, in the input field?
   Like this:
        {datesort}_{timesort}_{serial ... }_JOB_NAME

Just an idea. Frantisek

P.S.: Now I think about it, syntax colour highlighting would be great for all input fields where one can enter variables. Although again only useful for powerusers. Your variables are so great feature, please consider revamping the UI for them to make them more accessible, somewhat akin to Spotlight interface in Finder, where one can press the + button on screen to add another criteria from the list. It would make it IMHO more accessible for more casual users.

Hi, Frantisek
I agree with your suggestion to make variables more acessible for more casual users...
I would also add to your list the use of code replacements.

I like the idea of entering a jobname on that same dialog too... and having that as a variable for both folder and file naming. Cook Idea Frantisek!

However, those both involve logic/coding changes, and were I to be in Kirk's and Dennis's shoes, I'd categorize them separately that just enlarging the input field size of the folder name.   I would assume the original idea is fairly trivial to implement.  The additional stuff takes it out of the 'trivial' category.  (But then, Kirk is so good, he makes everything trivial.  ;))

Cool!  I just got a promotion to 'full member'.   I guess that means I can't slack off anymore.  I have responsibilities now!
