Both Nikon D4 and D800 RAW Files can't be rated or tagged, nor can the IPTC Info be edited or anything.

Changes are just ignored without any error. I use .XMP sidecar files. My old D700 NEFs work just fine.

Please look into that, PM just got completely useless for me now since I upgraded my cameras. Thanks!

It sounds like you have an old version of Photo Mechanic.  What version are you using?

You said you're using XMP sidecar files with your NEFs.  Are they being generated?  Have you checked your IPTC/XMP settings to see if they're still setup the way you want them?

Yes Kirk, they are being generated when I ingest the photos. But when I check the Infos, no IPTC infos have been applied during the import either.

I am pretty sure my settings are okay, since freshly imported files from my D700 work just fine. I've sent you some sample files.

Thanks, Matt

Can you post a screen shot of your IPTC/XMP settings, please?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

Thanks,

Damn, I just found the solution myself: I changed the reading order for TIFF-based RAW files to read the sidecar file first, embedded XMP second and embedded IPTC third and now everything works fine again. This is funny because those settings I had before worked just fine for a long, long time.

I guess the D700 did not add embedded XMP or IPTC and now the D800 and D4 do?

Thanks anyways Kirk, Photo Mechanic just got super useful again! ;D

PS: Are my settings okay otherwise?

They look fine to me.  I generally don't use the IPTC-NAA resources options anymore.  But they don't hurt anything.  You'll get a minor speed increase by turning them off.
