Q Button - Preview goes dark
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:01:06 AM »
Hi Kirk,

when I press the Q Button the cR2 File out of my Canon 1DX becomes much darker ! I know that I see the JPEG preview of the raw file before but why is the rendering of the raw much darker !
I never had this before ?

Is that new with PM5 or with my new 1DX.

That's the rendering output from Apple's ImageIO.  Does the file look any different when viewed in the Preview application that comes with your Mac?

No the file looks the same in the Preview App on the mac - as with PM and the Q Button !

So the JPEG implement in the RAW looks better than the RAW at the start !

MAybe the autoblala things of the camera make the JPEG looking nice but the auto things does not work on the RAW file !

Could that be the answer ?

As far as I know, Apple's ImageIO RAW renderer knows nothing about the settings used by your camera.  It uses its own set of defaults.  I suggest just not using the RAW rendering and use the embedded JPEG preview instead.  It's faster and better looking anyway.
