Preview Window Close Keyboard Shortcut

hi there!  long time user, first time poster.

Just DL'ed the beta of PM5...love it. 

but...

why does cmd-w (on mac) no longer work to close the preview window to go back to the contact sheet?  can you put a toggle in the prefs to choose between closing preview window OR closing a contact sheet?  I close waay more preview windows via the keyboard than close contact sheets.  adding the shift key in changes my muscle memory from over 6 years of using this program daily.

Hi Steve!

I tried closing the preview with "Command-W" and it works for me (build 13119 on Mountain Lion).
Can you close the preview with the ESC-Key?

nope...no joy with 10.6.8

in the menus, it even has "cmd-w" to close contact sheet and "shift-cmd-w" to close preview window. 

aha!  esc does work, but it's not the same as cmd-w (which i have been using since version 3)...it's a muscle memory thing.  i'll try to start using esc from now on, but i can see it slowing me down in doing selects in large event takes due to the change until i can re-train my fingers away from the former keyboard shortcut.

(btw nice work on 500px.com, i just started following you)

it's more of "it's a different key" than more or less keys to hit.

it's like touch typing.  i do 99% of my selects on my event takes without leaving the keyboard.  i just look at the shots, code them as needed without taking my hands off the keys and get back to shooting/editing. 

it's just different than it has been for the last couple versions and doesn't make sense for an action that is used more often than the new contextual action (closing contact sheet while in contact sheet view) that cmd-w triggers now.

i hope that makes sense.  it's why i use PM instead of other photo sorting programs, it's fast and transparent.

I've had other people tell me that Command-W isn't closing their Preview window as well.  I also live and develop on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and never have this problem.  Perhaps there is something in the way that you bring up the Preview window that causes it not to react to Command-W that is different than my usage pattern?

Can you either record a video of your usage pattern and post a link here or describe in great detail (leave nothing out) how you interact with the Preview window?

hi Kirk.

nope.  still not closing on cmd-w and it drove me nuts sorting out a 1300 image event take today.

my keyboard workflow:

dbl-click into preview from contact sheet view or hit space
arrow key
1,2 or 3 depending on my select
arrow key
arrow key
arrow key
run into multiple images from the same part of the event and hit cmd w to close preview and go back to contact sheet
curse when it doesn't close using ingrained thumb/forefinger motion i've been using for 5 years.  hit cmd-w 3 more times wishing it would work
snarl and hit esc
use arrow keys to drill down to the next section
hit space to open preview window
repeat

yeah.  can't adjust to the new keyboard shortcut at the moment-i'm just getting frustrated when i should be flying thru sorts.  going back to my older version of PM.

Kirk just sent me the newer build and works like it should.  weird. 

back to using and enjoying the upgrade and will be purchasing asap.
