PM 5, runs on Mac OS 10.8.1 but is slow, after switching apps
« on: October 08, 2012, 10:09:54 AM »
I had this problem before, with PM 4 but it resolved itself for an unknown reason, now I'm running PM 5 on Mountain Lion and it's very slow after switching from the editor back to PM, the beachball keeps on turning for at least 20 seconds before I can do anything and the waiting time increases.

We can find out what PM 5 is doing by running the Activity Monitor and having it 'sample' PM 5 while it is misbehaving.  To do this run the Activity Monitor and then find and select the Photo Mechanic 5 application from the list below.  Then switch back into PM and if it is non-responsive, click on the "Sample" button in the toolbar of the Activity Monitor which will sample PM 5 and prompt you save the results.  Attach the results to this thread.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your sample file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hi Kirk, attached the sample I made

Thanks.

I think the next build of PM 5 sill resolve this issue for you.  Your time sample appears to be similar to others that gave me theirs a few weeks ago and I solved their issues with a test build.

OK, nothing looks out of place.  Does the screen flicker in any way?  Does the speed ever improve or is it a permanent slow down?

No, all is normal, the only thing is, whenever I select an image and edit in Pshop and return afterwards to PM it takes up to 30 seconds before PM responds. Also if I return from my mail to PM same thing

Is your system low on memory?  If  PM's memory gets swapped out to disk because of virtual memory paging then there isn't anything we can do about it.

Hi Kirk,
I finally found the thing that caused the slow reaction of PM.
It seemed the antivirus realtime scan function in  Mackeeper was active.
As soon as I switched it off, PM was acting the way it should be.
So I am pretty sure the problem is solved.
