Extracting Jpegs from ORF Generated Tiffs
« on: January 18, 2013, 09:38:31 AM »
Mac OS 10.8.2 and PM 5.0 build 13507
When editing ORF's made in an Olympus EM-5 camera I notice the following:
1. I can extract a small jpeg (about 1.2 MB) from an ORF when using the extract jpeg previews from Raw photos command in Tools
2. If I edit a file in NX2 and save it as a Tiff, and then try to use the extract jpeg option in Tools, I get this message  "none of the selected photos have extractable previews"
3. If I edit a file in NX2 and save it as a Nef, I can use the extract jpeg option in Tools and get about a 12 MB file

Is this SOP ? Thanks, Richard

That's the size of the JPEG that's embedded in your ORF files.

TIFFs don't generally have previews.  None is necessary.  If you want a JPEG from your TIFF, use the Save As dialog and use the JPEG option.

Capture NX2 puts in a really high quality JPEG in its NEF files.

No bugs here, the above is completely expected given the circumstances you've listed.
