Lightroom / PhotoMechanic Settings
« on: March 26, 2013, 07:11:31 AM »
This was working fine till a crash yesterday.
I'm adding older color coded images to Lightroom 4. after the crash, items already color coded are not being seen by LR if I edit the color code - it works as normal.
any ideas. or just a thought - did I get to a point in time where the settings from PM was "wrong" for LR and I need to re-color code for LR???

What did the crash constitute of? A complete rebuild of your machine including sw reinstall or less drastic?

Did you have to rebuild your LR database, or are you making use of an existing one? Have you already tried updating the metadate in LR (IIRC, right click an image and choose update metadata). If that doesn't work, there's likely something wrong with your LR and/or PM setting. Can we see your PM XMP/IPTC preferences?

Also: do you have LR keep metadata only in its database or also update the xmp sidecar files?

Hope this helps,
Hayo

PM just stopped working - I restarted it and as a habit I may have restarted my PC. LR has no problem. I don't think it's current setting because that works properly - I only have a problem with images I coded a year ago or more.

Hi Kirk -  :D
I've found it is old setting issue - at some point when I started using LR, I set the "correct" settings to share XMP data (i think) but anything coded prior is not recognize by LR. I am currently working on a folder that was edited / coded before LR but a couple images were edited after LR. On importing only the newly edited item show correctly in LR.
Now I understand the issue - is there anything I can do - other then recoding all prior date to automatically update the side cars (i think).
Thanks

Hi Joe,

If the data is not/wrongly encoded in the xmp file, I don't think there's any other solution then to have PM rewrite them. Use an IPTC stationary where you update a dummy field with itself, that should do the trick.
