« on: November 12, 2013, 04:43:21 AM »
Hello, I went to PM Help-SW Update and tried to download the new version as offered but when download completes a message states that the installed version of my PM cannot be determined and download ceases?

I have V 5.015011 (working) the new version is stated to be 5>0 15077

Thanks

The update web page tells you that?

Download it directly from here then: http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=8780.0

When I selected the Software update (mac version) it took me to this page: http://www.camerabits.com/pages/webupdate.cgi?version=PRO&vmaj=5&vmin=0&vupd=0&vint=0&build=15011&beta=0&nameOrCompany=Peter%20Edwardsson&dept=&regCode=&plat=mac&id=688586206858ea8b&uuid=B6A6F2C1-D37B-7901-D1B3-404E8D9F0F4F

It says:

Quote
Your software license entitles you to one year of free updates which expired on May, 2004. The latest version 5.0 (build 15077) of Photo Mechanic you are using for Macintosh requires a password good thru June, 2012, which is beyond your free update period.

You may check the webpage for the update and see if there are something wrong with the link from within PM 5.

By the way, I have a licensed copy of version 5.0 since last month.

I'm pretty sure the new build is supposed to fix this issue. So manually download 15077 this time and hopefully you won't get the wrong message in the future when the next build is released:

Kirk I followed your link but same result, the .exe downloads but on opening "The installed version of the application could not be determined the set up will now terminate" appears and the only option is to check the OK box and terminate.
(in 2004 I had not even heard of Photo Mechanic)
Thanks

Dave,

Kirk I followed your link but same result, the .exe downloads but on opening "The installed version of the application could not be determined the set up will now terminate" appears and the only option is to check the OK box and terminate.

I'd suggest a full uninstall followed by an install of PM 5 build 15077.

Kirk can you help please? I uninstalled V5 as you suggested and now in trouble.

Win 8.1 64 bit

Tried to download V5 again from Camera Bits, get as far as Install Shield which runs a few percent and then see the following message.

"Following error occurred on file. C:\WINDOWS\System32\SDLaa8f7.rra' Access is denied (0X5)"

If I hit 'try again' I see

"Feature transfer error
Feature Default feature Component 64 bit C:\Windows\System32\SDLaa8f7.rra' Error the system cannot find the file"

This means nothing to me

Thanks

Dave,

Try right-clicking on the installer (PhotoMechanic5R15077.exe) and select "Run As Administrator." Then go through the process again and see if it completes.

Many thanks, that worked perfectly. Perhaps I should have thought on those lines because I have had some problems with admin & user passwords since going to Win 8.1
