Photo Mechanic startup slow
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:59:55 AM »
Any idea why it takes PM so long to launch on my laptop? It's been like that for a long time no matter what OS I've been on or the version of PM. I'm currently Mac OS 10.9.x and it still takes a bit to launch. So I'm assuming it's my machine. I've repaired permissions, ran disk utility, etc. Any other ideas?

Do you have a lot of hard drives, mounted server volumes or lots of Favorites?  It may be the Favorites and Navigator that are taking a long time to get the directory contents they need.

What version of PM are you running now?

Latest version.
I do have hard drives but it takes a while to load when they're not connected as well. I also only have to two favorite folders as well.

Would you be interested in running a logging version of PM so we can see where the time is being spent on startup?

Not sure if it has anything to do with it in your case, but  I too noticed this sometimes. In my case I have found it was explained by the fact my hard drives went to sleep in the meantime and had to spin up again (this can take quite some time).

So what exactly is a "logging" version of PM and when do you want to get on this?
Thanks
M

I sent you a Personal Message with instructions to get you started.  Please check your "My Messages" link in the top menu area.
