IPTC keeps last text after multiple Apply Stationery to Selected
« on: December 03, 2014, 02:18:13 PM »
Running Win 7 x64
PM5 build 15800

I often have a group of images that I want to have with the same caption.

e.g. Player x celebrates scoring his sides first goal.

So I select the images, then press Ctrl+I, write the caption and then hit Apply Stationery to Selected, which works really well.

If I then select another group of images to apply a different caption to, when I hit Ctrl+I, the caption above is still there, so I have to delete it first.

I want the 'base' IPTC to come up so that I don't have to waste valuable time deleting the last caption.

If I click on the i on the image I have the 'base' IPTC.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

The IPTC Stationery Pad always stores its last applied settings.  This is by design.

Ctrl-A, followed by a press of the backspace key should delete the caption quickly.

And I think it would greatly upset people if it didn't! Think about all the field that you don't want changed in between, do you want to have to tell PM every time “this is the new base”. That's just impractical. Select all followed by delete is very quick and easy.

I would just add that the 'delete' step is not even necessary.  Command A (or control A on PC) and just start typing your new info.

The problem with Ctrl+A is that it selects all the text in the box.

It is standard practise here to have something like this in the Description/Caption box

- Photo mandatory by-line: Robin White/Pinnacle - Tel: +44(0)1234 5678910 - Mobile:0777777788888 - VAT Reg: 111111111  - 25/10/2014 - SPORT - FOOTBALL - Barnsley v Bristol City - Oakwell, Barnsley, England

I then type my caption before the initial     - Photo mandatory

So you can see that I don't want to delete all that info.

Having said that I have just figured out the solution.

In my Text file I just need a new a code for the above base text e.g. \x\

So the process will be

1) Ctrl+A to select All
2) Del
3) Type new caption e.g. \b8\ \gs1\ to give me something like Theo Robinson of Doncaster Rovers scores his sides first goal
4) Type \x\ to put the base text in

Not sure why it has taken me so long to figure this out - but hey ho got there in the end

So thanks for all your help it is much appreciated  :D

What I did in the past:
Ingeting images applied a base set of IPTC data excluding the "user and rights info" from description / caption.
During viewing through the images I added the needed information by picture (player, etc).
When it comes to uploading the images to an agency I applied a nearly empty IPTC stationary to the image affected.
If you are uploading images to different agencies that require different text applied to the description / caption you only need to change the IPTC stationary to be applied.
