possible to sync two IPTC fields automatically?
« on: April 23, 2015, 06:04:47 AM »
Is it possible to sync two IPTC fields automatically, so they have the same content at any time?

I want to synchronize i.e. the IPTC standard location fields (location, city,...) with the corresponding IPTC extended fields, so that both fields have the same content after I change a value with the IPTC stationary pad.

Thanks :-)

Greetings
Uwe

Hi Uwe,

You could do this with variables in your Stationery Pad.

For example, anywhere you put the variable {city} will be filled with whatever you actually type into the City field. You could save a Stationery Pad with the variables filled in, and call it up whenever you are going to type data into the fields.

Learn more about Variables here, including a list of them http://wiki.camerabits.com/en/index.php?title=User_Manual_Flat_View#Image_Variables

Hi Mick,
thanks for the hint :-)
But it seems not to work in my case :-(
I think the problem is, that the city value is not written, when it should be resolved inside the {city} variable.
I get "{city}" inside the field of the Stationary Pad if I apply the Stationary Pad to the picture :-O

Your photos need a city set in them first, then the variable will evaluate to the value in the City field when you apply the IPTC Stationery Pad onto your photos.

Hello Kirk,
thanks - understand I you right?
It must be an two step process:

1.) set city value and apply to the image
2.) open and apply  stationary pad again for the image, with a preset that resolves the first setting of the city field to another field by using the {city} variable

That is correct.
