Do you consider it safe to upgrade to Catalina now?

Yes, but make sure that all of the apps you need to use are 64-bit apps. macOS Catalina has no provision for running 32-bit apps. Photo Mechanic 5 (and earlier) are 32-bit apps. Photo Mechanic 6 is a 64-bit application.

I finally made up my mind and made the move. So far, so good.
I was afraid my Lightroom 6 (stand alone version) would not work but it did.
