PM rescans NAS volumes

I am on macOS 10.13.1 and I access files on a Synology DiskStation via SMB.

Whenever I have a folder on the NAS open in Photo Mechanic and I click out of Photo Mechanic and then change back to the Photo Mechanic window, it rescans the open NAS folder which can take a really long time. Nothing has changed on the volume, yet I get a spinning beach ball for a long time.

Otherwise PM is accessing the folder quickly. Scrolling through photos , opening them in Preview etc. runs smoothly and fast.

Is there any setting I can change? I have a feeling that this used to be faster in the past.

You can add:

NEVER_RESCAN_ON_RESUME ON

to a text file named PMDebug.txt (and place it in PM's Preferences folder) and PM will never rescan any contact sheets when you switch back into PM.

On macOS, the Preferences folder is in this location:

~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic/

You can get there easily by switching to the Finder and choosing "Go to Folder..." from the "Go" menu and then pasting the above path into the dialog, then clicking the "Go" button.  The change will take effect on restart of PM.

Yes. You can always force a rescan that way.

Just to be clear...
The scan is looking for new volumes (it doesnt seem to update nested folders).
Will the text string also stop refreshing of images on a contact sheet when you leave and return to PM?

A Contact Sheet rescan only looks at the folders it is browsing.  It doesn't care about new volumes.

That's the only thing that setting does.  It prevents the rescan of all open contact sheets regardless of whether they're local folders or folders on a network volume upon resuming PM.

Interesting, I had no idea this option existed. I wonder if it would be worth adding into the Preferences GUI?
