Metadata template newbie question
« on: September 06, 2019, 02:38:39 PM »
Hi
I'm running Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 3558 (afa5073) + Mac Mojave 10.14.6
I want to switch out of LR to PM + Affinity Photo and I have 18K images which I want to reorganise by country and rename.
I'm trying and failing to get the renaming formatting right.
I'd like the image names to be based on this: Austria/Vienna/capture date/random sequence number
So ideally: Austria/Vienna/2019 Feb 20/025
I can see 'date shot' but I can't see how to format it as I want.
Also not clear on the difference between 'city' and 'city taken' and similarly for 'country'.
An answer would be great - and if you can point to some kind of master pdf where in future I can look up this kind of query, I'd be happy to do that.
Finally - where can I check out PM+ beta as I'm keen to see how that can replace LR? Thanks!

How are you moving your images around?  If you use the Copy/Move dialog with the Move option you can create that folder path and rename your images with a sequence number.

You can build the folder path like so, given that your images have country and city information:

Choose the "Copy to this Folder", pick your base folder location of where you want your paths to be built.
In the field that follows it, enter:

{country}/{city}/{year4} {monthname3} {day0}

Then check the 'Rename copied/moved photos as:' checkbox.  In the text field below the checkbox, enter {seqn} or simply set the 'sequence' checkbox to the right of the text field.

That should do it.

Also not clear on the difference between 'city' and 'city taken' and similarly for 'country'.

They're completely separate metadata fields.  The former are the original location data, and the latter are the newer location data, along with location shown fields.

An answer would be great - and if you can point to some kind of master pdf where in future I can look up this kind of query, I'd be happy to do that.
