Preview Window > Use of "W" shortcut / + icon "Selected Set" feature

I'm having trouble getting this to work. The selected set appears to only ever be the first image I had selected whenever I double clicked to open the preview window. The online help is "cough" brief and I cannot find any videos that explain how to use ?
What am I doing wrong ?

OK.  If you have the Preview setting (in the Preferences dialog) "Synchronize single selection between Preview and Contact Sheet" turned on, you'll have to turn it off.  Then you should be able to control the selection from the Preview window.
