search syntax in catalog

I am having trouble finding the correct syntax for searches. An example would be: state "maine" AND capturetime= 2021 and I get nothing. If I do capturetime= 2021, I get all of 2021 but if I try state "maine" I also get nothing. Is there further references on how to do a search besides the online manual?

If you open the Browse tree and look in the:

Metadata (IPTC)
    Location (Legacy)
        State
    Location Created
        State
    Locations Shown
        State

tree items, do you see Maine listed?  Are you setting the "Use Case-Sensitive Search" checkbox in the Search tab?

This similar search works for me:

(state "California") and (capturetime.year = 2005)

As for more documentation, refer to the built-in info (Catalog->Searchable Fields... and Catalog->Search Examples...)

OK, now I am baffled. When I look at the metadata fields, neither the state of Maine, town of York nor sublocation of Cape Neddick show up. When I tap the "I" key, all of the previous fields are filled correctly, which was done in PM 6, although not PM plus. What am I doing incorrectly?

When you say that you've looked at the metadata fields and they're not listed, are you looking at the items I mentioned earlier in the Browse tree?

Are the images in question actually in a catalog and is that catalog set to be searched?  If you look at the thumbnail images is the circle to the right of the filename filled green?

No they are not. I did run "scan to catalog" before doing the search. What am I doing wrong?

Did the path(s) that you scanned include those images?  If so, are you using the Folders to exclude or File Extensions to Exclude features that may either omit the folder containing those images or exclude their image types?

Tjhe search works now as I made sure that the files were included into the catalog. However, I initially did "scan to catalog", there were no exclusions and yes, these files were included.

Well that's unexpected.

It would be nice to know how they became removed from your catalog, but it's unlikely we'll ever know.
