NEF, Save as -> weird colors

I have D200 NEF files, camera set to sRGB. Photo Mechanic's Color Matching toggle is on.

If I extract the JPEGs, everything is fine. If I "Save as" then the resulting files' color is off, it is very flat. No matter whether I set "Convert to sRGB" on or off (which shouldn't be neccesary anyway).

What is happening? Is there any setting I might have wrong?

What OS are you running?
What version of Photo Mechanic are you running?

I run OS X 10.4.9 and Photo Mechanic 4.5.

You're getting the RAW rendering from ImageIO (it's what Aperture is supposed to be using) and it is rendering using the as shot settings.  If you're not happy with the color, you will likely need to use a more-capable RAW rendering tool like Capture NX instead.

Thanks for the reply!

I just found out the same (by cataloging in iView with Apple's IO enabled). So PM cannot make use of the Nikon API if Capture NX is installed?

Would be great to save as nice JPEGs in PM with the crops included ...

Is this also the reason why "Save as ..." for NEFs doesn't even work on Windows XP? Since there is no OS-level codec?
