Error while ingesting - rename JPG
« on: May 26, 2020, 07:06:42 PM »
I intermittently get errors like this while ingesting:

While copying/moving an error occurred:
Unable to rename 'M:\2020\2020-5-26\tmp.{0c547059-89f3-4ee4-9fe4-2e29b10f1635}.JPG' to 'M:\2020\2020-5-26\_DSC3633.JPG'.

This all started when I moved from SD cards to XQD - not sure if that's related.

When I "Retry" it succeeds, but this impacts my workflow since the ingest gets interrupted every 5photos or so and I need to sit through the entire ingest. (In an ingest of 30 photos I got error 5 times). Seems to happen on JPGs when I ingest NEF+JPG.

Photo Mechanic Version 6.0 build 4538
(Same issue with previous update)

Log file too big to attach.

Zip compress it and attach it.  It should get significantly smaller.

Is there anything special about the M:\ drive?  What file system does it have on it?  Is it a local drive?  Does the problem happen only with that drive?  Have you tried other drives?

It was compressed when I tried attaching :(
Uncompressed the log file is 4GB

The M:\ drive is a 4 TB Seagate - my backup destination. It is NTFS - nothing special about it.

I will try another drive next ingest.

If you can open it up in a text editor, delete the first half.  Then compress it and post it.  Otherwise, just delete it and reproduce the problem again.  The file should be much smaller then.

1) I could not open in text editor so I'll delete and re-create.

2) I changed drives and still have the problem. The first time it was on a legacy HDD. This time it occurred on SSD.

Thanks.  Unfortunately there's not enough information for me to tell what the cause of the problem is.  I'd like for you to turn on some additional logging and then ingest again and provide the new log.

In Photo Mechanic's preferences folder you'll create a text file named PMDebug.txt and enter the following text:

COPY_MOVE_LOGGING ON

The location of the preferences folder is:

C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Camera Bits, Inc\Photo Mechanic\

Then quit and start Photo Mechanic again.  Then ingest again.  When it finishes choose the "Reveal Support Data..." command on the Help menu.  A Windows Explorer window will come forward with a zip compressed copy of the PM.log file.  Please reply to this message.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thank you.  Are you by chance enabling RAW rendering (using the Adobe DNG Converter)?  If so, could you disable it and see if it fixes your issue?

Thanks,

-Kirk

Kirk

It was set to enabled (Adobe DNG renderer). I will try with it disabled.

Thanks

Has there been a fix for this? I am having the same issues, also when upgrading to CF Express cards.  (But CR3 files, I don't shoot RAW and jpeg), but I assume the jpeg mentioned is the preview jpeg that PM loads in?

If you're not shooting RAW+JPEG, then your issue is not the same as the person who started the thread.

If you're using RAW rendering via the Adobe DNG Converter and your images aren't showing up, either disable RAW rendering or make sure that you have the very latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter installed.  If your installed converter can't handle your images, then nothing will show up in PM since it will just get errors from the converter.

CR3 images have great previews in them and there is no need to do RAW rendering on them.
