Why difference between CR2 and CR3?
« on: May 19, 2022, 10:54:48 AM »
Hi,

what I wanted to ask for quite a while: Why PM writes the Iptc  with Eos M50 CR3 files in an Xmp sidecar file, as opposed to an CR2 file with my 5d MkIV, where it's written into the file? That's what I want.

I use newest PM6 on Macos Mojave.

CR2 RAW files are based on the TIFF file format which can be updated without proprietary knowledge.
CR3 RAW files are in a format that currently can only be updated with proprietary knowledge that only Canon has.  Thus, to store your metadata, XMP sidecar files must be utilized.
