« on: March 08, 2022, 10:48:57 AM »
Mac Pro 16"
OS Monterey
Photo Mechanic Plus Version 6.0, build 6245 (14de08a)
If see at image in PM+ all caption is there then I "E" open file tru Photoshop 23,2,1 latest PS
I open in camera raw edit and it is opening on photoskop.
If I go to file info the caption is gone? See images attachments.
I store all my images on Synology Nas. if I check older files for examples from 2019 I have all caption there

I would benefit much more in investigating your problem by having the Gysinge_0433.NEF file and its accompanying XMP sidecar file (if present).

Roger,

Thanks for the image and associated files.  What is the Gysinge_0433_ADMIN_Mar-08-180321-2022_Conflict.xmp file?

Roger,

When I open your NEF file in Adobe Photoshop 2021, it appears in the ACR plug-in.  If I then Open the image and get the File Info, I see your Description, Keywords, Copyright notice, etc.

Hmmm the Gysinge_0433_ADMIN_Mar-08-180321-2022_Conflict.xmp  happens when opening the image from PM+ or open directly in Photoshop and it also creates the acr file. what is that I haven't a clue.

But I cannot see the catpion in Photoshop strange

What if you only open the image when PM Plus isn't running at all?  Does it still produce the Conflict file?  Is the caption visible then?

I don't think PM Plus is creating the Conflict files.  Others have had a similar problem and thought that PM Plus was the cause.  But our software does not even contain the word "Conflict" in any of its text strings.  So I don't think that our software is creating those files.  It could be the NAS that is creating those files, or Adobe Photoshop is creating those files.

Unrelated to PM: I use Resilio Sync and it creates ... conflict.jpg files. It is often difficult to figure out what caused the conflict. So perhaps sync software involved?

Roger,

I found this on Photoshop. https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/photoshop/kb/networks-removable-media-photoshop.html

Interesting article.  While they don't mention _Conflict.(any extension) files, they basically are saying don't use a NAS with their products.

We don't tell people not to use a NAS with Photo Mechanic or Photo Mechanic Plus, but NASes are inherently slow and unreliable.  They're great for backups, and file sharing with peers on the same network, but they're just poor performers for every day use.  Still, we don't tell people that they really shouldn't use them with our products.
