View ONLY the files that match a keyword?
« on: July 18, 2022, 06:53:49 AM »
Is it possible when using the Image > Find command to see only ONLY the matching files?

At the moment, I'm doing a "Find" based on a keyword in a folder off 300 photos.
The result is ...  all the matching files are highlighted but all the un-highlighted photos are still visible.
Which means I have to go searching for the 3 or 4 photos that are highlighted????

Is there a way JUST to see the highlighted photos ONLY???????

... or is there a better way to quickly view all the photos that contain a specific keyword (like a filter would)?????????

Thanks (learning slowly)

You can use the filtering dropdown menu above the contact sheet to view only selected items. By default, this is set to "All" to show all images. Click the menu and the choose "selected". Please note that once you do this, if you select a subset of the items that are now showing and the contact sheet refreshes, it will now only be showing you the currently selected items. It may be better to tag all selected items and then choose "tagged" from the dropdown menu, but it will depend on your use and what works for you.

Thank you for the information - however I can't seem to find the "filtering drop down menu above the contact sheet"????
See screenshot attached to show where I have looked.

I have PM 6.0 on Windows 10 (64bit)

I used you information to search for "filtering" and came across this:
"There is no keyword filter system in the Photo Mechanic 6 application" by Kirk Baker, Senior Software Engineer, Camera Bits Staff

I wonder if this is true or still the case??? (or I'm looking in the wrong place?)
If it isn't possible - is there some other way I can find and just see the images that match the keyword?

Thank you - I appreciate you taking the time to reply

Just been experimenting and THIS "seems" to do the job.
Could you confirm if this is a suitable method please.
See attached file.

If it does THANK YOU for sending me on the right path!
Very much appreciated

If it is not going to work, any other suggestions?

Thank you for that. I can see now where I misinterpreted his information. I mistakenly thought I had to somehow filter by keyword via selected images ... rather than the method he was suggesting. Find first,  then use the filter to just show the selected ones.
Really appreciate your clarification and confirmation.
I have been able to keyword and find images by keywords thanks to the help I received.
Very grateful
