Windows 11 + Nikon z7II + USB = no contact sheet?

Using latest v6 of PM plus and have run into an odd problem...
setup is Nikon Z7II connected to dell notebook via type C cable
what I want to do: open contact sheet of images on card in the camera
what happens: Using the Open process, I browse to the relevant folder on the card, but when I try to open the contents in a contact sheet, nothing happens. No error. No nothing.
If I use Windows Explorer, I can open the folder and see files.
My workaround is to use explorer to transfer files to computer hard drive and then open in PM+.
Thoughts appreciated.

Photo Mechanic needs the memory card to be mounted as a drive. If the camera doesn't mount the card as a drive, Photo Mechanic will not be able to use it. We generally recommend using a card reader.
