Trying to understand the PM+ Folder system
« on: August 15, 2023, 07:28:59 AM »
Just trying to clean up my hard drive. Under my Photo Mechanics Catalog folder is a Proxies folder. Inside that are over 4,000 folders spanning a couple of years. Are all of these active and necessary? I'm fine if they are, but if there is a way to clean up old data, I want to do so. To be clear, I still want my catalog to be complete and searchable.

Thanks

When you view your catalog and you see thumbnails and previews when source images are offline, that is because Photo Mechanic has created and uses these proxies when it can't fetch the full images every time.  I can't say for sure if you've orphaned any catalogs along the way, so I can't tell you all of them are "active and necessary" but in general, if you want to view and search your catalog(s) when source images are offline, then you will want to leave proxies alone.

Hope this helps

Mick

(edited to make clear the proxies are mostly used when source images are offline)
