Search not distinguishing 'is' from 'contains'
« on: August 19, 2023, 01:49:32 AM »
This search

caption is "[search string]"

finds files where the caption is [search string][more text] as well as [search string] although the 'search examples' show that it should be an exact match. PM+ doesn't seem to recognise 'contains' but this search seems to be a 'contains', not an 'is'.

I'm unable to reproduce this. What if you try using the anchors mentioned in the Advanced Search section? Does following that example find that exact caption? Some screenshots where you reproduce the problem as described may reveal something that isn't obvious from the stated problem.

I expect that you'll not be surprised that I can't reproduce this problem now either.

I ran 5 or variations on the search before I made the post and it was consistently not distinguishing between the exact string & a longer string containing the term. That's not the case today & the search is working as expected.

I do find that sometimes PM+ is not properly responsive for 5 minutes or more & when I check Activity Monitor I can see it's busy. Possibly I was repeatedly seeing the results of the same search when I was trying a new variant.

Where you mention the 'Advanced Search section' do you mean the Find tab brought up with [cmd]+F? I rarely use this as I am generally searching many thousand files and have to go through a series of "Preloading Metadata has failed and the operation has been cancelled." before the Find completes. The Search function doesn't show this problem. I do use the Find & Replace a lot as I'm generally working with just a thousand images or so & I find it very useful.

No,I mean the advanced searched section of the search examples window accessible from the Catalog menu.
