Delay when entering captions using code replacements

I've been noticing a delay of up to 2 seconds while entering codes with Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 6856 (e57a46a). The previous version was also the same. As you can imagine, this can be very annoying!!

My laptop is a 2021 M1 MBP with 16GB RAM and 262 GB of free HD space running Ventura 13.6 (22G120). My files are all .jpg. Will any settings in the cache preferences help?

Caching preferences don't have any impact on Code Replacements. How many code replacement files do you have? Do you have a rough idea of how many total codes you have throughout all of those files?

I normally load a separate set of codes for each team, one for the referee and a generic set of my standard phrases.

Would it be better to combine the team codes into one long list as opposed to 2 separate ones plus, adding my standard codes to that same list?

So just to clarify, you remove any old code replacement files from the list and then your list of code replacement files is generally at a maximum of 4 files at any given time?

That is correct. I add and remove the teams as I need them.

I also use autocomplete which is always loaded. Would this have any effect?

This delay only occurs when you enter the closing code replacement delimiter?  Or are you getting a delay with each letter you type, regardless of whether you're entering a code or not?

From what I recall, it's only when entering the codes. I can type the code, including the delimiter, and it catches up after a second or two.
