Passive, or not
« on: January 18, 2024, 12:50:21 PM »
I've been caught out twice when I've not been able to upload images even though I have internet access. After posting a question on this forum, I was pointed to the answer.

I probably don't need to know the answer but I wondered what the difference between between Passive and not selecting Passive when uploading images using FTP?

Also, what is the difference between FTP and FTP v6 and why should I use it?

Thanks in advance.

Filezilla has a quick explanation of passive vs active mode for FTP in the following documentation article: https://filezillapro.com/docs/v3/faq/ftp-connection-active-passive-mode/

The main difference between Photo Mechanic's FTP uploader template and the FTPv6 uploader template is the FTP uploader template supports IPv4 IP Addresses while the FTPv6 uploader template supports IPv6 and IPv4 IP Addresses.

Example use case: some mobile carrier hotspots recently switched to using IPv6 addresses, so you would use the FTPv6 uploader template when using those hotspots.
