Auto Update or One Click Update
« on: April 01, 2024, 02:24:37 PM »
I love how Photo Mechanic is always improving, and hope the new subscription model will keep an emphasis on updates.

I hate how I sit down after a long day of shooting, am on a deadline, and Photo Mechanic asks me if I want to take a few minute break to update it right then.  It is never a good time to update if I am opening up Photo Mechanic.  So I click "no" and get to work, and am faced with the same question tomorrow.  It doesn't even show me the changelog so I can decide if there is some pressing reason to do it now or later.

It is just the nature of the work, that I can update it any other time, except for right when I open up Photo Mechanic.  It would be far more convenient if it updated on closing, or updated silently in the background.
Just another Photographer in Boston doing the photojournalism and commercial photography thing.  Photo Mechanic user since 2007.

One of the improvements that we've rolled out with the subscription (and perpetual, for as long as the license is due to receive updates) version of Photo Mechanic is a streamlined updater on the MacOS version. Now, when you are alerted that a newer build is available, it shows the release notes and it will download and replace the current build automatically once you choose to perform the update. We are working on bring this to Windows as well.

Which build of Photo Mechanic are you using?

We fixed a file on the update server to correct the issue. It should now tell you that you have the most up to date build when you do a manual update check.
