Error Message

Every time I ingest photos, I get the error message "Unable to Rename Photos" on a few images. For example, maybe 15 photos out of 1000 will cause this message to pop up. The photo will then ingest correctly after I hit Retry, and then PM continues ingesting until the next error message pops up. It does this again, and again and I have to hit Retry each time. It is frustrating as I leave PM to do its thing and come back expecting PM to be done, but PM is stalled with this error message showing. And I don't need PM to rename files so I don't understand why I would get this message. See the attached screenshots, and thank you for your help. 
 
I am ingesting to an internal hard drive but not the C drive.
I am running PM 2024.8 Version 7765 (982b3d8) with Windows 11 23H2 on a Dell XPS 8930 with 32 RAM.
I am importing Raw files from a Canon R5 with a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128 CF Express card. Read 1700 MB/s Write 1200 MB/s.
The card reader is a SanDisk Extreme PRO CFexpress Card Reader - SDDR-F451-GNGNN

I think you forgot to attach your screenshots.  Do you have any software that monitors/processes folders when files are added to them?  Since the problem is intermittent, I am expecting that something outside of Photo Mechanic is the cause of the problem.  PM always copies to a temporary file and once it fully arrives intact, it is renamed to its final name, which may be the original name from the source directory, or renamed according to your renaming settings.

I tried disabling my anti-virus program but I still get the error. Thanks, I will continue to check other programs on my PC.

Do you have " Enable RAW Rendering" on in the "Render cache" section of Photo Mechanic's preferences?

FYI

If I copy the 1000 photos from my CF Express card to a folder on an internal hard drive I have no issues. Then if I ingest those photos into PM it all goes well. I only get this error if I ingest directly from the CF card to PM directly.

The specs on my card reader say it supports USB 3. 1 Gen2 speeds for smooth, efficient workflow from location to post-production* | *USB 3. 1 Gen 2 permits interface speeds of up to 1250MB/s. Is this reader possibly the issue?

Disabling raw rendering, fixed the problem.
But now I understand that "raw rendering" is the problem. What changed if PM is the same version?

Thank you, after disabling it I was able to load the same photos from my card to PM with no errors. You may have fixed it for me. I will continue to check this. and Thanks again

The request to have the Adobe DNG Converter produce a new preview seems to be interfering with Photo Mechanic's ability to perform the steps with the temporary file that Kirk described earlier.  The thing that changed is that Photo Mechanic is no longer requesting that the DNG converter produce a new preview, so whatever was blocking Photo Mechanic from dealing with its own temporary files is now no longer happening.
