All video thumbnails have suddenly turned blue
« on: October 05, 2024, 06:58:39 AM »
I'm a longtime PM user (10+ years), currently running v6.0, build 7212 (90865b3) on MacOS Sequoia. Last week, all my video thumbnails began displaying blue -- this occurs with all videos, regardless of the camera, but doesn't affect photo. Bug, or did I inadvertently change a setting somewhere?

It's a problem with macOS Sequoia that will have to be fixed/worked around in PM.

Hi Kirk, any updates to remedy this glitch?  It's a very distracting part of our workflow.

Thanks,
Craig

We've got the problem fixed. We have one final build of Photo Mechanic 6 (and Plus) coming out that will include this fix.

Hey guys! Just checking in on this -- any ballpark idea of when the final PM6 update might ship? Culling video without being able to see the thumbnails is a huge drag on my workflow. Thanks for all your hard work!

Likely sometime in late January, 2025.

late january 2025. four months to fix this after dropping the rental model on us, four years after not supporting apple silicon natively. is this not exactly the kind of thing the recurring revenue was supposed to alleviate?

are you not prepared for expectations to change now that you changed the model?

The post that started this topic was asking specifically about PM6.  The PM6 build that will fix the blue thumbnails issue for PM6 users will be released sometime in January.

The Apple Silicon-native build for All-in-One subscription licensees was released on October 31st, 2024.  The fix for the blue thumbnails issue has already been deployed in the All-in-One subscription version.

I can't even tell you how much worse this makes it look.  You all seem to have lost your way.

I've also posted builds that Photo Mechanic 6 users can download at the beginning of this month that have the fix for this issue with the disclaimer that they had not been fully tested yet: https://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=16407.msg80474#msg80474

Please also keep in mind that we originally announced that the end of support for Photo Mechanic 6 would be in May 2024, so this issue was introduced by MacOS Sequoia well after our intended End of Life date of Photo Mechanic 6, but there are a few issues that we wanted corrected with the final build of Photo Mechanic 6, and this was one of them.

Ultimately, there is going to come a time when Apple or Microsoft makes an update to their OS that breaks something Photo Mechanic 6, and if we had stuck with our original intention of when Photo Mechanic 6 was going to be EOL, that time would be now.

you're MASSIVELY not getting it. the way this "transition" was handled and what there is to show for it was bungled from the beginning. forcing users into a subscription is one thing, no new features, no roadmap to making PM a modern piece of software, plus the embarrassingly slow response to this issue are all out of bounds. if your plan to EOL PM6 in May 2024 was even remotely plausible, you would have had the courage of your convictions and stuck with it. clearly you understand this wasn't plausible, and that's why we're in this stupid zone where we're waiting months for a fix and hearing "be thankful we're fixing it at all". do you think anyone is fooled that this delay is to get people to throw in the towel and give you subscription money that you haven't earned.

i've used photo mechanic (and even bought and tried PM+ LOL good lord) for my whole career, and it's easy for me to say that i've received more value than i've paid. it can't be ignored that it wasn't the kind of software that added features and improved experience often enough to justify a subscription. no you all are playing games to get through the transition and you can't be surprised that people aren't happy, CAN YOU?

do you have marketing help? comms help? does anyone there understand the good will you've torched over the handling of this?
