PM often slow in displaying thumbnails
« on: January 04, 2025, 06:38:52 AM »
Hi,
I can't really find posts regarding the same issue, so here goes...

PM has always been extremely fast at showing thumbnails when I open a new folder as contact sheet, displaying the thumbnails instantly. The past 6 months at least, it has taken 10 seconds or more for a folder with just 10 images in it. Not everytime, but too often. And usually when the folder and contents is new (meaning after import).

This was the case with both PM6 and PM6 Plus. I also tried the new PM, but it's the same.

My current system is a MacBook Pro M4 with 24GB RAM. Before that I was using a MB Air M1 with 16GB RAM. I haven't changed any settings in PM and my camera gear has been the same. Mostly 24MP RAW-files from Nikon Z6 and a Leica M10. Every OS and FW is up to date (but currently running PM6).

Any suggestions to which settings could be changed to improve the performance when displaying of thumbnails?

Thanks,
iau

Do you have RAW Rendering turned on?  If so, turn it off.

I just checked and no, I don't have RAW rendering checked.

What sort method are you using for the Contact Sheet?  If it's anything other than Filename or Modification Time, then it can take time to gather the metadata to perform the sort.

I'm using Filename. I just ingested 25 RAW-files from a Leica Q camera and after the ingest the contact sheet didn't update for 40 seconds. I then clicked on a different tab/contact sheet and then back to the new one, and the thumbnails showed up instantly.

What I don't understand is when this started I hadn't changed any settings prior to it. I will try to investigate a little more and experiment with some settings, but right now it is a clean install of both the OS and PM (but the behavior was there on my previous computer).
