Metadata (IPTC) Template - No GPS Metadata available
« on: January 20, 2025, 12:52:17 PM »
Hi,
I wanted to move my Digital Asset Management workflow from Lightroom to Photo Mechanic.
Meaning I want to convert all Loctaion Metadata. Unfortuantely I don't see I could toggle this info on in the "Customize Metadata (IPTC) Template" Editor. Did I miss something, or is it not build in (yet). I think I have asked about this feature here a few years ago…

For me it's quite important to have ALL possible metadata together in one place. I don't want to jump between several software for the annotation process.

P.S. It would be better if this "Customize Metadata (IPTC) Template" edit page would be a bit more structured (than left side, right side),
or if I can search for the entries.

Hi,

Photo Mechanic's IPTC dialogs do not have any GPS coordinate fields because that metadata is stored in the files Exif section and not in the XMP section.  You can use the {glat} and {glon} variables in any of the IPTC dialog fields to show the GPS coordinates in the same dialog as your other metadata. Use the Set GPS Coordinates utility from the Image menu to add or adjust the GPS coordinates in the selected images.

Before you are done with Lightroom, make sure the Catalog Settings on the Metadata Tab are set to Automatically write updates to the XMP. This will allow Photo Mechanic to find the keywords and other metadata added by Lightroom. If this option was unchecked, then it could take Lightroom some time to update a large image collection after enabling this option.

Best regards,

Hi Bob, thanks for the Info.
So, it's not possible to apply an extra XMP entry with the GPS data and combine this with the other IPTC metadata template.
Okay, I will think about this workaround. Not sure if it really makes sense to apply GPS data into the IPTC flelds…
