Keyword File Location
« on: July 18, 2010, 05:35:13 PM »
Question 1: Where is the location of the file containing my keywords?
Question 2: I have two computers at different locations and the keywords are somewhat different - I need to consolidate and compare the two file and reconcile the differences into one complete file that I can e-mail or .mac send back and forth as I move around. Ideas?

Thanks
Stowell

Are you wanting the Keywords or the Structured Keywords?

Stowell,

Just the Keyword file not yet into structured keywords.

You can use the 'Export' button from the Keywords dialog to save them.  Then on the other machine, use the Import button to load them in.  If you need to merge them, you'll have to do that manually with a text editor, meaning:

Export on both systems to a file.  Merge the two files into a single file (you don't have to alphabetically sort them or remove duplicates).  Then Import the merged file on both systems.

I know this is an older post but just came across it: i too want to find, save & merge keywords, but I have no idea where the "keywords dialog" is located or where the merge function is. [Do you mean to open one file in the Mac Finder and copy the other to it, with "skip" selected?] (in a couple of times, I have lost my keywords--just came up blank when i went to use it.  Same thing with the "Load" button in the metadata--it just recently turned up blank! and I had spent hours filling in metadata for sources and groups of images I am working with regularly!!)

You can bring up the keywords panel with Command-K when on the Contact Sheet or Preview window. I believe 'merging' in that context meant opening up two files in a text editor and copying and pasting the words from one to the other, but keep in mind that instructions posted this long ago might no longer be relevant.

I believe we covered where keywords are stored and how to back them up when we spoke on the phone the other week, but if you have more questions about this stuff we can easily set up another screenshare so you can show me what you are trying to do.
