What is your Photo Mechanic Capture One Workflow?
« on: November 24, 2025, 10:41:13 AM »
At first I thought that I would use Hot Codes to Go Ahead and auto create folders for Capture One Sub folders Capture, Selects, Output and Trash and to do that you would do this.

Capture One Auto folder creation from Photo Mechanic

This is my import line
{iyr4}/{iyr4}-{imn0}-{idy0}-{jobname}/[C1FolderName]

This uses Code Replacements and Hot Codes. You can use this for any kind of subfolders that you want with your import. With my Fuji I have to leave it in sequential otherwise it doesn't create the correct folder name. After the folders are created I can switch back to "Backup" and the images will go into the Capture folder.

Steps
1. First create 4 folders in Camera
2. Take a picture in each folder then import so that you can figure out what the folder numbers will be.
3. Adjust the file below to match your folders.
4. Adjust your import line to match the path and the Hot Code
5. Test your ingest to see if it is working properly.

I hope this helps.

// Capture One Import Code Replacement. This will label and create your subfolders.
// label your folders and shoot one dummy image into the folder it will import for folder creation.

//==   {foldernum}
//##   C1FolderName
149   Capture
150   Selects
151   Output
152   Trash
//??  Capture

That was fine and dandy but it does lead you to taking the time to create those folders by shooting an image into each that you are just going to throw away anyway which is a waste of time and not ideal, but it is a great way to make subfolders for a job. So if you need subfolders made this method is great for doing that and the folders will automatically be created upon ingest. So that's great and it works.

But if you're like me a lazy photographer you will eventually wind up with a ton of test shoots and unfinished jobs that are littering up your intake drive. So what I have done is I have made a session for 2025 by pointing my new session to that folder in my drive and it then holds all of my shoots that exist on my drive. Then if I need to make a session out of any folder on my drive I simply
  • Click the folder
  • Copy the Name
  • Click add New Session
  • Paste the folder name
  • Ensure my Root folder is selected. In My case 2025
  • Press Ok to create a new Session
  • Then my Session is created and all that I have to do is Move my files to Capture (you can skip this step by importing to the Capture folder in the first place)
  • Now my session is ready to go

I cull in Capture One because it has that great grouping feature that I use. It makes going through all of the images quick and easy. Then I do my edits and my job is done.

All of my ingesting, code replacement, stars, colors and keywording happen in Photo Mechanic.

What's your workflow?
