Photo Mechanic and iView color labels
« on: May 31, 2006, 08:53:07 AM »
I and others have asked if there was a way to synchronize the color labels in PM and iView.
I have found a workaround that makes it possible to export the colors from PM to iView.
iView uses the urgency fied in the IPTC to label the files.
Setting the urgency to "Low" attaches a Cyan label in iView.
Setting it to 7 = Yellow
Setting it to 6 = Orange
Setting it to "Normal = Magenta
Setting it to 4 = Brown
Setting it to 3 = Blue
Setting it to 2= Green
Setting it to "High" = Red

If Kirk could find a way to set the urgency from a keyboard shortcut, I should be very grateful  ::)   :D

Maybe 4.5 ?  :-*

It would probably be better to do what Robert Edwards has been suggesting for some time which is to have an option to keep the Color Class and the IPTC Urgency field locked together.

Does iView really have no other way of storing its color tags?  What about 5-star ratings, how does it do that?

Oh, yes, if you could do that, it would make life a lot easier   :D

I have no idea how iView creates star rating. I just tried star rating some RAW and jpg files in iView, synced annotations and looked at the same folder in Bridge. It show the star rating in jpg,s but not in RAW,s.

If i apply star rating in Bridge, the star rating only appears at the xmp file in iView not the RAW thumb.

Can I conclude that iView does not apply star rating to xmp?

You could send me some sample files that you have rated and color tagged and I'd be happy to see if I could find out how they store the information.

Thanks,

Hi Kirk,

iView uses the IPTC IIM Urgency Field for its Color Labels. For Star Ratings it uses the IPTC Core Ratings, like Bridge does.
