I keep seeing references to Ruby which is apparently a scripting language.  Could someone tell me more about it?  Is it available on Windows?

Ruby is indeed a scripting language and is available on a variety of platforms.  We use it for our Export and Upload features in 4.5.2.  With Ruby and Photo Mechanic, one can write custom exporters and uploaders.
