Learning to be a better photo editor

Does anyone know of any training courses in using Photo Mechanic to be a better photo editor. I work at a private school in Silicon Valley as a photographer + photo editor, and am looking at finding better ways at improving my judgment as an editor. If anyone has any suggestions as to courses or books etc that might be out there to work on these skills, I would be interested. There are a great many photo editors in magazines and newspapers/ online publications. How do these professionals get good, in addition to on the job work experience?

Mark, this is a very good question!

It is usually easy to spot the bad ones and the really good ones.  But then there is a host of seemingly (similar) ok shots.  To pick the best out of that bunch is the hard part.

Practice helps, an I find it very helpful to go through the shots together with my wife as well.  Sometimes you dan't have that luxury though.  So any help would be nice

I'm afraid though that the answer is: practice, practice, practice
