How to use XMP

I installed PM on a freshly installed machine (Win XP) and cannot set PM to add XMP sidecar files. I don't find the option and the forum search didn't give me a result for XMP. My main problem is I cannont get PM to add metadata to XMP only fields of the images during ingest what would be my point.

What are the exact settings to correct my current problem?

What kind of files are you working with?  If it is JPEGs, TIFFs or DNGs, no sidecar file will ever be created.  The XMP data will be inserted into the file itself.  Only RAW files will have sidecar files.

I use CR2 files and with my previous computer system I had the sidecar files, just all my settings are gone with a format+reinstall...
