IPTC Info window design
« on: December 14, 2007, 02:49:28 PM »
I'm just coming back to PM after demoing it a few times in recent years. I've notice a re-design of the IPTC Info window in the current version. Previously all fields were presented in a static window in 3 quadrants, with the thumbnail in the 4th. Now only the left side of the window is used, requiring a scroll bar to access all fields.

In my humble opinion I see this as a big step backwards - editing IPTC data now takes longer and it's easy to miss fields during scrolling. I'm sure there was a good reason for the change, but I'd like to see a return to the old window format with no scroll bar.

Just turn on the Classic IPTC dialogs in the IPTC/XMP tab of the Preferences dialog.  The familiar dialogs will return.

Kirk,

Fantastic. Happy camper once more  :D

Does the new dialog provide any other functionality over the old one besides resizeable thumbnails?

Moving forward, will you update the old dialog with new fields, features that are added to the new one or should users consider it's functionality frozen?

It is basically frozen.  There isn't room to add more fields.

Kirk, I have a Apple 30" display so there is a LOT of room to add fields  ;D

Seriously though, with 20" LCD's now considered entry level monitors and laptops capable of 1280x1024 resolution I think some dialogs could be re-sized a bit.

The new dialogs that you didn't like are fully resizable.

I too like the old smaller, no scroll classic version but the keyword field is way too small.

Any possibility for us users customizing the new IPTC window?  Many of the fields are not necessary at least for many if not most users.  It would be nice if only the fields we use could be displayed, then there would be tons of room especially for keywords.

Thanks

We have plans to make them customizable, but I don't know when we'll do that.
