Dragging images from contact sheet to editing application
« on: February 12, 2008, 02:20:49 PM »
When I am going through a contact sheet and drag a RAW+JPG image that includes a sound file onto an editing application (in my case, Photoshop CS3), Photoshop attempts to edit the Nikon NEF file as well as the JPG AND the associated sound file (resulting in an error message).

Is it possible to set PM to only edit the RAW or JPG when doing the "drag to" operation as well as exclude associated sound files from being passed to the target editing program?

I do have "When in RAW+JPEG mode, editing a photo will: Edit the RAW photo" already set in Preferences.  This works fine when I say "Edit Selected Photos", but doesn't carry over to the drag operation.

I am using PM 4.5.3 on Windows XP.

Thanks.

This might actually fall into the bug category since the manual includes drag-and-drop among the ways to edit photos.

Why do you need to use drag and drop at all?  Assign Photoshop CS3 as one of your editors and use the "Edit with" submenu on the contextual menu for the thumbnail.

When the drag is started, we can't tell what the purpose will be.  You may want to copy the files with Windows Explorer for example and not just edit the RAW file.

Fair 'nuff.

I am used to dragging and dropping in other applications so as I pick out the ones I want to edit, I am just used to dragging them over PSCS3 and releasing the mouse.  If I am working with all JPG and no sound files, this works great.

I understand what you are saying now about the context challenge and whether you know what the target purpose is (moving/copying vs. dropping onto an application workspace).

I will just try to remember to use the context menu.

Thanks Kirk!

You can also use the Ctrl+E (Image->Edit Photos) command.
