IPTC Date not Updating

I noticed the IPTC date was not correct on some files (and my subsequent files names , which are based on the date, were also incorrect).
I went into the ITC info, changed the date. saved it , went to rename the file, but got the same name.  When I went back into the IPTC info, I see that the original incorrect date is still there. How do I change the Date (which I assume is the date the image was shot)?

got it - never mind (needed to update the capture date under the tools menu option).
