SLOW thumbnails, fast computer
« on: July 20, 2008, 10:21:43 AM »
Hi Kirk,

I have an early 2008 MacPro, 8-core, 2.8ghz and 4gb of ram. Recently, when I open a new contact sheet, the thumbnails are very slow to load - regardless of file size. 1mb JPGs load as slowly as 10mg JPGS. CR2 files take a lot longer. I use both FW800 and USB 2.0 readers with a variety of cards including Extreme IVs and all have the same performance. Same cards and readers on my MacBook load superfast, but on my MacPro, the program crawls through thumbs. I've tried several cache sizes from 512-2000mb, restarted, changed every possible setting and nothing works. Any ideas?

PM 4.5.3.1

Thanks,

John

John, while I don't suffer from the same problem as you do, I think I read here that the 4.5.3.2 beta should fix this problem (Kirk will correct me if I'm wrong  :D).  Have a go at it.  It's in the announcements section.

Thanks - that fixed it.

I just couldn't stand seeing an old MacBook laying the smack on my MacPro. . .

Had the same issue..The Beta did the trick, was going to buy a new card reader until I checked on a G4 laptop and it loaded fine.

Thanx
