Camera Lock Photos vs PM Tagged
« on: October 07, 2008, 06:49:53 AM »
PhotoMechanic 4.5.3.2 on a Mac/Leopard and PC/XP.
Shooting a Nikon D3 and D2X.

Seems to me when I would shoot and 'lock' a photo in camera.. It would show up as Tagged in PhotoMechanic?

That's not happening anymore, and hasn't for quite a while.

Is there a way to set PM to indicate in some way that the photo was locked in camera?

If you view the photos on the card with the Finder and get info on one of the images that you know you have locked, does the Finder's Get Info window show the file as locked?

Ahhh...

Checked the nef on the card on the Mac.

It was locked. Opened in PM and it shows tagged.

What I failed to mention and just realized is that the first step in my workflow is to DNG my images.

The DNG processed files are now unlocked and not tagged in PM.

Drats. I wonder why the DNG process is not honoring that setting?

I don't see any reason why it should.  You're having it generate a new file from a locked file.  There's no logical reason why the new file should also be locked.

I guess you are right. DNG converter is generating a new file from a locked file so the new file doesn't have to be locked.
I can live with that logic now that I understand why the change in my workflow caused PM to quit showing camera locked images as tagged.

Do all locked images show up as tagged in PM? Or does Tagging an image with PM lock that image?

I know that my problem has nothing to do with PM. It just seems that the DNG Processor should recognize that the nef was "locked" in camera (which is really the shooter Tagging it or saying, "Hey, this is a good one, Treat it special" and save that setting somewhere.

Yes, as long as the image hadn't been edited by PM before it was locked.

No, PM does not lock the image when you tag it.

Unfortunately there is no XMP data for specifying that something has been tagged. (At least not to my knowledge.)
