Photo Mechanic runs surprisingly well on a netbook PC. However, the small 1024 by 600 screen doesn't work well with some dialogs which won't resize (for example, preferences) and were designed to use a full 1024 by 768 screen.
Here is a simple workaround. It works for an Acer Aspire One (Intel 950 graphics) and possibly others brands. It allows selection of resolutions other than the native resolution.
To enable selection of screen resolutions and to select 1024 by 768 resolution:
- Open Display Properties by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties,
or
by opening Control Panel and selecting Display.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click Advanced.
- Click the Monitor tab.
- Uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display."
- Click Apply.
- Click OK which will return to the Settings Menu. Notice that the Screen Resolution slider is now enabled.
- Drag the Screen Resolution slider to "1024 by 768 pixels."
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
The display will now be in 1024 by 768 pixel resolution; the screen will be a 1024 by 600 pixel window that can be scrolled up or down by moving the cursor to the top or the bottom of the screen.
Now that the Screen Resolution slider is enabled, it is easy to change resolution. For example, to return to 1024 by 600 pixel resolution (which is what you will want most of the time):
- Open Display Properties by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties
or
by opening Control Panel and selecting Display.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Drag the Screen Resolution slider to "1024 by 600 pixels."
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
