is there a way to fade out the checkboxes in the sheet-view, which appears under each image?

Ah, and second:
Why can't I change the background color of the "navigator"/"favs"? That blue is cruel.

No.

You can.  Just right-click (ctrl-click if you only have a one button mouse) on an item in the Favorites or Navigator and choose Preferences... from the contextual menu that appears.  You can change the colors there.
