Long time to browse a folder
« on: July 30, 2006, 04:34:13 AM »
My question is regarding the cache settings.
I have a fodler with a lot of archives pictures (7500)
It takes about 5minutes before any appearence.
My cache setting are as follow :

disk cache 512 MB
reserve 100 MB

Memory cache size 500 MB

I am on a partitionned Mac laptop using 10.4.7 running the latest PM.
Are my settings optimum ?

I don't know.  You didn't tell me how much RAM your laptop has.

But in this case, it is likely the sorting method you have chosen.  Sorting by filename is the fastest.  Sorting by Capture Time is the slowest.  The reason being that we have to deep scan all images in order to sort them.

I have 1,5 g of RAM.
I do sort out by capture time so i will do it by file name then.

Thanks

Your cache settings are good, though I would not increase the Memory Cache setting any higher than you currently have it.  Maybe even just 400 MB if you use Photoshop at the same time as Photo Mechanic.
