LR namespace for hierarchical keywords
« on: May 10, 2009, 08:01:11 AM »
So that PM and Lightroom can be used interchangeably with hierarchical keywords, could PM do as described at

http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/help/cvkc-lightroom.html#hierarchicalkeywords ?

"... the DC subject holds the regular keywords, and the new hierarchical elements are placed below that in a separate LR namespace."

Would this make Lightroom the tail waging the dog?

I'm not sure I understand that last part, but we could certainly write out keywords that have a hierarchical separator between them into the lr:hierarchicalSubject bag of an XMP record.  And we could merge the dc:subject bag and lr:hierarchicalSubject bag terms into the keywords field of the IPTC dialogs.

We'll consider adding this capability in a future version of Photo Mechanic.

Yes, that is what I was referring to, the namespace  lr:hierarchicalSubject described at

http://snipurl.com/hyg0v  [www_controlledvocabulary_com]

Since Lightroom and PM have exactly the same CVKC structure (right?), this would further align them.

Thanks very much

Version 4.6.2 will write out (and read) the lr:hierarchicalSubject field.  Would you like to test it?
