re tagging photos slow

hi when tagging photos using the latest version of pm I find that I get the spinning ball this slows down photo tagging enormously how can I rectify this I am using a macbookpro computer and snow leopard would this be due to the size of my photo files I use a D3x hence the photos are rather large

as I live in the uk that could turn out to be very expensive
