Ingest and filenaming variables
« on: January 09, 2010, 07:08:30 AM »
I just installed the latest version of the software. This is a first time use under XP. I posted this originally to the wrong group.

I'm just testing the software today and was working with the variables. I have used the following string to rename the files: img_{dats}-{tims}.{type}

1) The {type} is upper casing the original suffix value (or maybe recreating its own) is there a way to get a lower case value?

>>> I found what I think is an answer to lowercasing, looks like there is a preference and that I could also have added a {type:lc} to do the conversion as well.

2) Ignoring item 1 the JPEG files produce what I expect (img_20091206-171635A.JPEG), but the Canon CR2 files have extra stuff (img_20091206-171704.CCR2.CR2). What is generating the CCR2 in the filename?

>>>Still trying to figure out where the CCR2 value is coming from on this one.

3) Is there any way to get the process to prompt for a value? I'd like to create folder names like {dats}_{prompt-me}

..dan

Dan,

To add to my earlier answer in the thread in the Quantum Mechanic forum:

1) Type is NOT the filename suffix, just an indicator of the file type (e.g. NNEF, CCR2, TIFF, JPEG, etc.)

2) Your use of the {type} variable in the renaming template does this. You do not want to include it; the filename suffix (e.g. .tif, .jpg, .cr2, etc.) is ALWAYS added by PhotoMechanic (you can not even get rid of it, only tell PM to make it upper or lower case, via the preferences). Just change your renaming string to img_{dats}-{tims} and you'll be fine.

3) This is not possible in the way you want it. But if you start the file renaming (keyboard shortcut: CMD/CTRL-M) you can edit the renaming template. If you want to edit the file names on a per file basis, you can do that in the contact sheet by double clicking on the filename underneath the thumbnail.

Hope this clarifies things a bit more,
